The Mask Parade

Today we had our mask parade.  We made our masks out of paper pulp and we pushed it into shape then dried it off in the oven and finally painted it.
We had some Angry Birds, a lion, a giraffe, some butterflies, a bird, a T-Rex and a monster.

Nature Week

To celebrate the letter Nn this week we are having a nature week.

We made some insect feeders to see what insects would come and visit.  We got some big beetles and some little midges!  But the biggest surprise was the lizards that decided to visit.

Scattercat Geometry

We have been learning to describe the position of a person or an object.
We used "Hairy Maclary Scattercat" by Lynley Dodd and we described what the characters were doing.

B B B ... we love b!!!

Our focus letter of the week last week was b!
We went on a bear hunt and we found a bear!
Read our book and find out where we went then help us decide on a name for our new friend!
So far we have Honey, Sox, Fluffy and Cuddly.

Our Favourite Animals

We went to Orana Park a little while ago and we have made a book about our favourite animals. Tell us about your favourite animal and why you like it so much.

Spot It!!!

The "Spot What" books that we have in our class are some of our favourites so we decided that we would have a go at making some puzzling pictures ourselves.
Here is Alex's "Spot It" picture.  He placed all the things carefully and then he took the photos himself.  He made sure to stand above his creation so he could look down on it with the camera.

Measurement

In maths we are learning about measuring things. We traced our arms then measured how long they were using our maths equipment.

Frida's arm was 10 teddies long.

Lachlan's arm was 5 pieces of mobilo long.

Brody's arm was 19 cubes long.

After the snow we did some cool writing called, As cold as ... We thought of things that were as cold as the snow had been. Here is our e-book!

Ancient Greek Clothing

Today we went to Room 2 to learn about what people used to wear over 2000 years ago.  Here are Max and Hamish ready for life in Ancient Greece.  Don't they look so cool!!!

Yesterday we travelled back to 776BC with Mrs Carter to Ancient Greece to answer the question, what food did they eat way back then?

We found out that they ate fresh vegetables, greek yoghurt, olives, fresh fruit, feta cheese, pita bread and hummus.

We also found out they cooked on fires.  They lived by the sea so they ate fish and that the Groovy Greeks invented the chefs white hat!  Thanks Mrs Carter : D

New Challenge

One thing we will be working on next term is word families.

School open - no buses

School will be open at 10.30am today (Thursday 7th June)

Buses will NOT be running this morning - please deliver your children to school.  
We expect them to be running  at 3pm.

Orana Park

On Thursday last week we went to Orana Park.  We learnt about lots of animals that are running out of time because humans are not looking after them or where they live properly.  We are going to do something about that!  We took a video of us feeding the giraffes with the i-pad.  Giraffes are amazing.  They have long, blue tongues.  This giraffe is 24 years old.  She is very old in giraffe years.  We had a fantastic time at Orana Park.

Orana Park Postponed

Unfortunately the weather is not good enough for the trip to go ahead today. We will postpone the trip until next Thursday.

Orana Park Trip

At this stage the Orana Park trip tomorrow is on. We remain hopeful that the bad weather will hold off so remember your warm clothing and a jacket.
If it is raining at 7AM the trip will be postponed until next Thursday.
